Welcome to the MacroPaleo Lab!

The Macroevolution and Paleobiology Lab (MacroPaleo Lab) is based at the Department of Zoology of the Institute of Biosciences, University of São Paulo (Brazil). Our research focuses on documenting evolutionary and biodiversity patterns through deep time, primarily using paleontological data. Our work spans topics at the interface of Paleontology and Evolutionary Biology, including taxonomy and systematics of extinct species, macroevolutionary patterns (such as phenotypic evolution and diversification dynamics), paleoecology, conservation paleobiology, and evolutionary biomechanics.

To address these questions, we use approaches such as phylogenetic analyses, phylogenetic comparative methods, modelling, virtual morphology and digital paleontology, geochemistry, and fieldwork aimed at discovering new fossil localities and collecting specimens. Much of our research focuses on fossil vertebrates, including dinosaurs, crocodylians, turtles, mammals, and marine reptiles. Interested in joining the lab as a student or postdoc, or collaborating with us? Feel free to get in touch.
